CUSTOMS INFORMATION FOR HOUSEHOLD GOODS SHIPMENTS

Consign Ocean B/L and Air Waybill to (VERY IMPORTANT):

Name of customer (as written in passport)
His/her address in Lebanon if available.

If no address available in Lebanon just consign to:
Name of customer as written in Passport and
Beirut, Lebanon.

a)      All documents made at origin should be in the name of the person for
whom the shipment belongs.  He/she should be in Lebanon during customs
clearance.

b)      Returning Lebanese citizens who have been living abroad continuously
for over 3 years have the right to bring into Lebanon all their USED
household goods duty free ONLY ONCE.  They should obtain from the Lebanese
Consulate at origin:

-         Change of residence certificate.
-         Legalized packing list or a non-valued list of all items being
shipped.

Besides these documents we will need original passport, house ownership or
lease contract in Lebanon verified by local municipality and a confirmation
of residence in Lebanon from the "Moukhtar".

c) For FOREIGNERS coming to Lebanon, the customs will require the following to let the USED HHG enter duty free:

-Original passport.

-Residence and work permits.

-House lease contract verified by local Municipality.

-Confirmation of residence by the local 'Mukhtar'.

NOTE : if work and residence permits are not yet available during customs clearance a bond can be placed with customs for up to 3 months during which time the required document should be presented to customs and the bond is returned.

d) Satellite dish receivers need special authorization from
the Lebanese authorities that can delay customs clearance 5 to 7 days.  More
than a few sealed alcoholic bottles in a shpt will be subject to duty.
There is no duty for opened bottles.  For fax machine and telephone we will
be asked to get special authorization from the Ministry of Communications
which also delays customs clearance by 5 to 7 days.  DO NOT PUT
MEDICINES IN HHG SHIPMENTS.  AT LEAST DON'T MENTION ON INVENTORY IF THESE ARE JUST NORMAL FAMILY MEDICINES.

e)      IMPORTATION OF CARS. Cars older than 8 years are forbidden to enter Lebanon . Cars running on Diesel are also forbidden to enter.  To clear a
private car it is a must to have original car purchase invoice, copy car
license and original passport is also required.  On the Ocean B/L please
ensure to show: model, year, color, chassis and engine numbers as well as
weight of car. Except for foreign diplomats there is duty/VAT for all cars.

f)        For foreign diplomats & foreign members of U.N. and E.U. who will have diplomatic status in Lebanon, we only need original Ocean B/L / AWB and packing list from the origin agent. Diplomatic paperwork are done in Lebanon.

g)      It is highly recommended that live animals are carried with the
customer and prior arrangements made with the airline for urgent customs
formalities in Beirut airport upon arrival of the customer & the animal.
Recent certificate for all normal inoculations is required as well as animal
ownership paper(s).
